Charles Saunders, 94

Charles D. Saunders, 94, of White Pigeon, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012.

He was born Sept. 8, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., a son of Theron and Ethel (Bates) Saunders. He had been a resident of the White Pigeon area most of his life.

On Dec. 12, 1955, he married Rosa J. Mummey in Centreville. She died Nov. 20, 2011.

Charles was a graduate of White Pigeon High School in 1936. He was employed as a tool and die maker with Gray Brothers in White Pigeon for more than 50 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan who enjoyed his family. He was a member of the White Pigeon Bowling Hall of Fame. He possessed a remarkable sense of humor.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Jerry) Enders of Pottsville, Pa., and Tami (Gregg) Salisbury of White Pigeon, and two sons, Timothy (Marianne) Saunders and Danny (Perri) Saunders, all of White Pigeon; grandchildren Nicholas Murray, Kevin and Kendra Salisbury, Scott, Nathaniel, Joseph, Matthew, Katherine, Jacob, Brian, Vernon Saunders, Charles W. Saunders Jr., Cindy Jackson and Katrina Stahl; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Adele Gray of White Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Charles W. Saunders; and a brother, Leslie Saunders.

Visitation is 5-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where services will be held at 6 p.m. The Revs. Wilbur Brandli and Barry Edds will officiate. Private burial will take place at a later date in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.

Donations may be directed to 1 Lt. Jonathan W. Edds Memorial Fund for the purpose of maintenance of the Fallen Soldiers Memorial at Wahbememe Park in White Pigeon. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
