Lucille Katherine Heydenberk, age 93, formerly of Kline’s Resort, Three Rivers and Pine Lake, Doster died Sunday Nov. 4, 2012 at Sunrise of Cascade. She was born on Dec. 18, 1918 at the family farm near Mendon, the daughter of Leon and Gladys (Klein) Happel. Lucille attended the Hall Country School and was the last surviving member of the Mendon High School Class of 1937. She had worked at the State Hospital and Schular’s Cafeteria. It was there that she met Robert Heydenberk, and they were married on Jan. 31, 1941. They made their home on Pine Lake near Doster for many years.
Lucille was a homemaker and was always ready to help when needed. She enjoyed sewing, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Family vacations were spent camping and traveling throughout Northern Michigan. After retirement, they moved to Kline’s Resort, travelled the United States, and spent Winters in Marco Island, Florida.
Lucille is survived by a daughter, Carol (Robert) Powers of Grand Rapids; a son, Dr. Warren (Roberta) Heydenberk of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Joe (Glenna Happel; two sisters, Celeste Happel and Ruth (George) Fry; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Anthony Happel; and her husband, Robert, in 1994.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, and where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 9, 2012 in St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations will be used for memorial masses. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
