Meeting on trailway master plan

The final public presentation of a non-motorized trailway master plan will be offered at 5:30 p.m. today at Sturgis Township Hall.

The plan was developed in partnership between Sturgis, Fawn River, Sherman and Burr Oak townships, and the city of Sturgis, Sturgis Hospital, and the Sturgis Area Community Foundation.

Centering on an abandoned railroad line from Sturgis to Coldwater, the plan proposes bike lanes, paved shoulders, side paths, and off-road trailways from Sturgis east into Branch County, promoting linkages between schools, businesses, services, parks, natural resources, and cultural and historic landmarks.

Organizers of today’s meeting said a vision for trails in the area to implement over the next 20 years is an integral part of the master plan.

The township hall is located at 26015 U.S. 12.
