Police investigating breaking-and-entering

Investigators from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department are looking into a pair of breaking-and-entering incidents in Colon Township.

The matter was brought to the attention of the sheriff’s department Monday after the break-ins were discovered at locations on Brandt Road, near Farrand Road.

Two seasonal cabins were entered and ransacked. Investigators said all breakable objects were destroyed, photographs were shot with a .22-caliber firearm and paint cans were shot.

In addition, a mattress was set on fire in one of the units, resulting in substantial damage to the unit.

Officials were told the incident occurred within the past two weeks.
