The deer hunt continues

Hunters have taken to the field across Michigan with the opening of the state’s 16-day firearm deer season, but with limits for hunters across much of the southern part of the Lower Peninsula. Hunters in that part of the state can’t kill as many deer as usual because of an insect-spread deer disease. Firearm deer hunting season started Thursday and runs through November 30th. So far, one human death has been reported, a hunter apparently asphyxiated by fumes from a propane heater he was using to heat his van in Mason County. The Ludington Daily News says the 54-year-old Zeeland man was found dead Thursday morning. His name wasn’t immediately released. The new limits on antlerless deer hunting are a response to epizootic hemorrhagic disease.  (AP)
