Two arrests following chase

Two Indiana men were arrested last week after they led state police on a high-speed chase originating in Mottville Township.

The incident started around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Vistula and Barker roads after troopers attempted to pull over the vehicle for an equipment violation. The suspect vehicle’s driver, a 20-year-old man from Shipshewana, failed to pull over and he continued into Indiana.

The vehicle experienced mechanical problems and eventually came to stop on County Road 4 in Elkhart County. The driver and a 19-year-old passenger, a Midlebury resident, were taken into custody by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officials.

Additional charges and extradition to Michigan will be sought by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

State police officials stated they believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.
