Ailene H. Doe, 89, of Grand Rapids, and a former longtime Sturgis resident, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 29, 2012, at Crystal Springs Lifehouse in Grand Rapids.
She was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Kinde, to Cyril and Anne Cregeur. On Feb. 19, 1944, she married Richard Doe. In 1958, they moved their family to Sturgis to establish Doe Distributing Company with his brother, Henry Doe.
Ailene was a member of Holy Angels Church and altar society. She also volunteered at the Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary and with hospice.
Ailene’s family was the center of her life. She continually voiced how fortunate she was to have had so many wonderful years with her spouse, both in Sturgis and Florida, and with her children and grandchildren, who shared so many memorable experiences with her.
Surviving are five children, Judy (Virgil) Post, Lexington, Ky., Faye (Michael) Miles of Kentwood, Nancy (Jerry) Fahner of Dimondale, Ron (Mary) Doe of Huron, Ohio, and Mary Kay (Frank) Schultz of Sturgis; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert, Jerry and Willard Cregeur.
Ailene was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; three sisters; and two brothers.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
The Mass of the Resurrection celebrating the life of Ailene H. Doe will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn cemetery in Sturgis.
