Attempted armed robbery at Walmart

Sturgis police were called Wednesday evening to a report of an attempted armed robbery at the Walmart store on Centerville Road.

According to a department media release, a well-dressed, white man who appeared to be in his 50s, met privately with the store manager after convincing her he was with the sheriff’s department. During a subsequent conversation, the man displayed a handgun and indicated his intentions to rob the store.

The suspect, however, left the business without securing any money. He fled the premises in a four-door vehicle heading south on Centerville Road.

The release did not state why the man left without following through on his plan.
