City issues statement

The threat of the season’s first snowstorm prompted officials from the city of Sturgis to issue a media release regarding municipal snow removal.

Snowfalls between less than one inch and three inches will be treated with applications of deicers and plowing. Depending on the amount of snow, measures may include plowing of intersections, major streets and/or local streets.

Snowfalls of four inches or more are categorized as snow removal emergencies, during which all on-street parking is prohibited. The parking prohibition remains in effect until a street has been cleared of snow between two successive street intersections. It may also be cancelled via public announcement by the city.

City officials also wish to remind residents that during any snowfall, citizens are required by ordinance to keep their sidewalks clear of snow, ice or other nuisances for a period of more than 24 consecutive hours.
