James Ivan Miller, age 63, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 2012, at his home.
He was born May 2, 1949, in Sturgis, a son of the late Harry and Carmen (Sager) Miller.
Jim resided most of his life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1967. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by one son, Jauhn (Kristy) Miller of Benton, Ky.; a daughter, Shannon Christian Miller of Bernie, Mo.; two brothers, Dewey (Suzie) Miller of Grants Pass, Ore., and Alfred (Donna) Miller of Palm Bay, Fla.; a grandson, Xavier of Bernie, Mo.; and granddaughters Athena of Bernie, Mo., and Megan of Paducah, Kentucky. He is also survived by his life partner, Janice Potts of Sturgis; her children, Amy Burr (John Summey) and Richard (Jennifer) Potts; her grandchildren, Michael Muino, Angelica Muino and Megan Potts; a sister-in-law, Barb Miller; a brother-in-law, Alvin Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ann; and a brother, Jack.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of James I. Miller will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. James Bender will officiate.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
