Minor injury in crash

A 15-year-old boy from Sturgis faces a charge of unlicensed driver following a one-vehicle crash at 5 p.m. Thursday in Nottawa Township.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Brad Balk said deputies were called to an area near River Run and Angevine roads in response to a vehicle that skidded off the road.

Investigators found that a Ford Explorer heading east on River Run Road had lost control on the slush-covered roadway, slid off the road, and struck a mailbox and tree.

A 15-year-old male passenger from Mendon received minor injuries and was transported from the scene by personal vehicle. Two other passengers in the vehicle were uninjured.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for driving too fast for conditions and a juvenile charge is also being sought against the driver for being unlicensed, Balk said.
