Nelma VonOlnhausen, age 86, of Sebring, Florida and a longtime former Sturgis resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday evening December 13, 2012 at the Summers Hospice House in Sebring.
She was born January 29, 1926 in LaGrange County, Indiana daughter of the late Scott and Mignon (Walker) Wetzel.
Mrs. VonOlnhausen resided in Sebring since 1998 moving there from Sturgis where she had been a resident since 1969.
On August 26, 1945 she married Carl E. VonOlnhausen in LaGrange County, Indiana. He died March 22, 1994.
Nelma retired from the Harter Corporation in Sturgis following 19 years of dedicated employment. She enjoyed crafts, reading, traveling, bingo and loved playing cards with family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters: Tanya Ray and Vicki (Jerry) Bowdish both of Sebring, Florida and Cindy (Mike) Usry of Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandchildren: Lisa Pearson, Michele Schlabach, John Ray, Craig Ray, Shawn McCullough, Chantell Hunsucker, Terry Lewis and Sherry Walkup; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters: Donnadine Herrendein and Coralie Baker; one brother: Voris “Hank” Wetzel and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Scott VonOlnhausen, sister: Klea Gay, two brothers: Max Wetzel and A.J. Wetzel and son-in-law: John Ray.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:45 P.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of Nelma VonOlnhausen will be held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Lawrence Green will officiate. Private burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
