Recount did not change results

Thursday’s recount for a six-year term on the Colon Community Schools Board of Education did not change the results yielded after the Nov. 6 general election.

Incumbent Eric Wagner, who finished third in a race for two seats, requested the recount in three precincts in light of his four-vote loss to second-place finisher Deb Bordner.

The recount, which took place at Colon Township Hall, featured a review of votes from Colon Township in St. Joseph County, and Matteson and Sherwood townships in Branch County. St. Joseph County Clerk Pattie Bender said the recount gave six more votes to Bordner, who ends up with 1,018 votes to Wagner’s 1,008 tallies.

Incumbent Eric Bower was the leading vote-getter, with 1,111 votes. His votes were not subject to the recount.

Wagner, 40, had been a board member for four years.
