Red Jacobs, 87

Melvin E. “Red” Jacobs died Nov. 21, 2012. He was born June 25, 1925 to William and Edith (Gray) Jacobs at home in Three Rivers.

Jacobs married Kay Butler. They had one son, Thomas Everett Jacobs and one daughter, Linda Kay (Jacobs) Blood (Gary). He later married Betty (Brown) Jacobs. Betty had three previous children: Sara Proctor, Ruskin, Fla., Thomas Proctor, Jacksonville, Fla. and Susan Carlisle, Baton Rouge, La.

As a child Red went to White Pigeon Schools. He had a mechanic license and airplane pilot license. He and Betty bought a restaurant in Pearl River, La. and worked there for many years. Jacobs could run heavy equipment, fly planes and he could fix most anything in the park that they moved to in 1988 from Louisiana. (Lincoln Arms Mobile Home Park, Bradenton, Fla.) They made many friends in the park and participated in many activities. Red loved to fish, was in the Navy and earned several medals.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Mary Ester Jacobs; brothers, Elmer Jacobs, Earl Jacobs, Roy Jacobs, Frank Jacobs and Dale Jacobs. Living are Raymond Jacobs, Clifford Jacobs, Richard Jacobs (Joan), Martha (June) Ruggles, Marie Cole, David Jacobs (friend Jane Casler), Mildred Welker (Robert) twin to Red.

Memorial Services were held Dec. 6 at Lincoln Arms Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, Fla. followed by interment of ashes with military honors at Sarasota National Cemetery.
