Sarah Abbs, age 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at her home.
She was born March 7, 1932, in Eden, Ohio, a daughter to the late Homer and Opal (Bayes) Smith.
Sarah graduated from Blanchard Michigan High School where she was active in sports and band. She had been employed by the Blanchard Paper Company and a local restaurant in Blanchard, Mich., and on Jan. 24, 1953, in Blanchard she married Jack Abbs.
They moved to Sturgis and she was employed by Transogram for 13 years, retiring in 1962 to spend time raising her children.
Sarah enjoyed flower gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, playing the piano, her yearly garage sale, and especially time spent with her children and granddaughters.
Surviving are husband, Jack; three sons, Tim Abbs, Mark (Cheryl) Abbs, and Jim Abbs all of Sturgis; two granddaughters, Andrea and Bailey Abbs; two sisters, Lucy Eckert of Plainwell and Kate Grim of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lowell; and two sisters, Vivian and Jo.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Sarah Abbs will be held at a later date to be announced.
