Welty retires

William Welty, who is winding down his 22-year career as a St. Joseph County District Court judge, was the recipient of a Saturday gathering staged in honor of his impending retirement.

More than 150 people at the Riviera Theatre in Three Rivers assembled to congratulate the 63-year-old Welty for his years of service to the county and wish him well in retirement.

Several county officials, numerous bar association members and peers from St. Joseph, Cass and Kalamazoo counties were on hand to hear Welty acknowledge their kind words. He thanked his wife, three children and court staff, and offered his best wishes to his replacement, Rob Pattison, and incoming Probate Court judge David Tomlinson.

A Lockport Township resident, Welty said he and his wife plan to travel, and he would also like to resume a number of hobbies in his retirement.
