Alma Grace Marie Leggett, age 88, of Three Rivers, died Sunday Jan. 6, 2013 at the Three Rivers Health Emergency Room. She was born in Romeo, MI on Feb. 20, 1924 the daughter of Harold and Grace (Schmidt) Aikman. She attended Alma College before her marriage to Earl Leggett on Nov. 15, 1942 in Pontiac, MI. They resided in Mt. Clemons, Auburn Heights, and Pontiac before moving to Three Rivers in 1973. Alma wa a bookkeeper who had worked at Pontiac Motors, E.E. Powel Construction in Pontiac, and Standard Steel in Three Rivers. She was a former member of the Moorepark Mennonite Church, and was an artist who displayed many of her crafts in the downtown Three Rivers stores.
Alma is survived by 4 children, Susan Leggett of Three Rivers, Elizabeth Schmidt of Paw Paw, Timothy (Erin) Leggett of Constantine, and Kimberly Leggett of Paw Paw; 6 grandchildren, T.J. Leggett, Shelly Leggett, Patrick Ashman, Candice Chegar, Jolan Moreno, and Evan Glamzi; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Aikman of Washington, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; and a daughter, Kathleen Ashman.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 11, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Homer Yoder officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorials will be directed to Special Olympics Area 17.
