Sturgis residents in a neighborhood in the city’s northeast quadrant are being advised to follow a boil-water advisory, following a water-main break last week.
The broken pipe was at the intersection of North Lakeview Avenue and Wilshire Drive.
More than a dozen basements were flooded as a result of the water-main break, which took place in the pre-dawn hours Friday, city officials said.
Water to the area was shut off while crews from the department of public works attempted to correct the problem. A drop in pressure during repair may have caused bacterial contamination in the water system, warranting a routine precautionary measure of boiling water and drinking bottled water.
Samples will be collected to determine whether water quality meets the state’s prescribed standards.
