Expansion will create more jobs

An automotive manufacturing plant in Mendon is planning a $5.1 million expansion, which is expected to create more than 90 new jobs over the next two years.

Officials from Southfield-based International Automotive Components said a 30,000-square-foot addition to the west of the current plant will allow IAC to increase the volume of its production at the Mendon site.

IAC spokesman David Ladd said the addition is necessary to support new business awarded last year. He said the $5.1 million cost includes the expansion itself as well as capital investment.

IAC is seeking a 12-year industrial facilities tax-exemption certificate from the village. A public hearing on the request will take place at the village council’s Feb. 11 meeting.

The Mendon IAC plant, which currently has 198,000-square-feet under its roof, produces hard-plastic, interior trim pieces for full-size GM pickups, the Chrysler Ram and Ford F-150.
