Marcelene L. Hagelgans, age 80, of Burr Oak, Michigan passed away Thursday morning January 10, 2013 at the Sturgis Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1932 in Berrien Center, Michigan daughter of the late Kenneth and Gretchen (Richardson) Hewitt.
Mrs. Hagelgans resided most of her life in Burr Oak. On September 12, 1953 she married Robert Hagelgans in LaGrange, Indiana. He died April 25, 1975.
She retired from Sturgis Molded Products following 28 years of dedicated employment.
Mrs. Hagelgans was a longtime member of Women of the Moose Sturgis Chapter #613. She enjoyed taking her chances with lottery tickets and visiting with her many friends never meeting a stranger. Marcelene truly cherished time spent with her grandchildren especially following their softball and volleyball sporting events.
She is survived by one daughter: Cheryl (Mark) Poley of White Pigeon; one son: Doug Hagelgans of Burr Oak; special family member: Barb (Dan) Culberson of Colon; five grandchildren: Jason Hagelgans of Butler, Pennsylvania, Kelsey Hagelgans of Brooklyn, New York, Kayla Poley, Paige Poley and Hanna Poley all of White Pigeon; four she considered grandchildren: Craig Waltke of Carson City, Brandy Schwenk of Colon, Cede Clifford of Middlebury, Indiana and Jen VanHoe of Kalamazoo and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son: Bobby Hagelgans and one brother: Merle Hewitt.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 A.M. Friday, Jan. 18th at the Sturgis Wesleyan Church 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Marcelene Hagelgans will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday, Jan. 18th at the church. The Rev. Steve Bean will officiate. A graveside committal of the ashes will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
