Sturgitirod postponed

The portable ice rink purchased by the city of Sturgis was not ready for use in time for Friday’s Winter Blues event, but municipal officials said freezing temperatures this week should help create an adequate layer of ice.

Installed at the corner of North Monroe Street and East Chicago Road, the rink will be open noon to dusk Sundays through Thursdays and noon to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Open hockey will be allowed 8 a.m. to noon daily.

Notification will be provided when the city declares the rink ready for skaters.

Though Friday’s Winter Blues drew a good crowd, the Sturgitirod event was postponed for lack of snow.
