Charlie Martin, 87

Charles Martin, 87, of Lawton, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2013 at the Battle Creek VA Hospital. He was born July 19, 1925 in Three Rivers the son of the late Harold and Lola (Abshire) Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Charlie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Lawton, the American Legion, Wiley Koon Post #475 in Schoolcraft, McKinley-Wilson-Hall V.F.W. Post #2532, Paw Paw, Kalamazoo County Voiture 161, 40/8, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries #2303 in Three Rivers, 32 degree Mason and a member of the Schoolcraft Lodge #118 F&AM.

On Nov. 10, 1960 in Mendon, Charlie was united in marriage to Erma M. Pepperman who preceded him in death on May 27, 2009. He was also preceded in death by three siblings, LeRoy, Anna Jean and Rosi Lynn. Surviving are a daughter, Waneta Sue (Joe) Truckey of Three Rivers; son, Wayne J. (Mary Peterson) Pepperman of Schoolcraft; three grandchildren, Michael (Myra) Mohney, Douglas (Keleigh) Mohney and Dawn (Troy) Cafaro; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday 10 to 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a Masonic service and funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon officiating the funeral. Interment will follow in Moorepark Cemetery, Three Rivers.
