Dale Stevens Jr., 82

Dale Stevens Jr., age 82, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 13, 1930, in Sturgis, a son of the late Dale and Mary (Kinsey) Stevens.

Dale was a lifelong Sturgis resident. On March 24, 1994, he married Phyllis Persails in Missouri.

He retired from Burr Oak Tool and Gauge Company in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment.

Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1947-1950, earning the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314 and Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion.

Dale enjoyed time spent in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, mushrooming in Northern Michigan, gardening and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Roger Stevens of Sturgis; a grandson, Colton Dale Stevens; a stepdaughter, Shellie Devlin of Florida; a stepson, Kenny (Sandy) Cullifer of Florida; seven stepgrandchildren, Sloan Cullifer, Shane Porter, Jack Devlin Jr., Hilarie Huschke, Craig Devlin, Brandon Devlin and Jasmine Flock; eight great-grandchildren and one expected in September; a sister, Pauline Westrick of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Stevens and Ronald Stevens; and a sister, Lorene Conley.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
