Peg West, 81

Marlyn L. “Peg” West, age 81, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Sturgis Hospital.

She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late William and Augusta (Schlorff) Allen.

Peg had been a resident of the Sturgis area all her life and was married to Lloyd West for several years until this marriage ended in divorce.

She had been employed for 23 years at Grumman Olson in Sturgis, retiring in 1997. After retiring, she worked for several more years at the BP gas station in Sturgis.

In her younger years, Peg played fast-pitch softball and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a Detroit Tigers fan.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy (Barry) Summey of Sturgis; three sons, Doug (Karen) West of Constantine, Bob West and Dave (Eileen) West, both of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Allen, of Redlands, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Duke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Lindsay West; three brothers, William, Dale and Raymond West; and three sisters, Josephine Paine, Volma Lowe and Lillian Vourveau.

The family will receive friends and relatives 4-7 p.m. Monday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.

Services celebrating the life of Marlyn L. “Peg” West will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Wicks of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. According to her wishes, cremation will follow the services.

Memorial donations may be directed to Thurston Woods Village, 307 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
