Saturday’s 28th Walk for Warmth event raised more than $5,400.
Organizers of the annual fundraiser said they are optimistic additional donations will help reach their goal of $8,000.
Nearly two dozen people took part in the event, which was a one-mile walk in Three Rivers. The walk is a symbolic gesture to bring attention to people whose financial state puts them at risk of having their utility services interrupted.
The 2011 walk helped 48 St. Joseph County households with funds to keep heat running in their residence.
All proceeds from Saturday’s event stay in St. Joseph County.
