Danny Weekly, 61

Danny Virgil Weekly, age 61, of Sturgis, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

He was born Sept. 13, 1951, in Greencastle, Ind., a son of Virgil and Virginia (Kosloski) Weekly.

Dan was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1969.

On June 1, 1974, he married Marilyn Harker in Sturgis.

Dan was a dedicated employee of Consumer Concrete for 25 years until he was forced to retire due to health reasons. He had also worked for Parker’s Ambulance Service in Sturgis. Dan was always ready to be of help to others. He was a volunteer with the Sturgis Rural Fire Department, the St. Joseph County Sheriff Department, St. Joseph County Dive, Rescue and Recovery Team and the Critical Stress and Debriefing Team of the Gryphon Place. He enjoyed kayaking, skydiving, scuba diving, gliding and for many years was Santa Claus. He also enjoyed serving as a fireman at Michigan International Speedway and he held a Black Belt and was an instructor in Tae Kwon Do and was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers. Although Dan had many interests and hobbies, what was always most important in his life was his family.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 38 years, Marilyn; a daughter, April Weller of Sturgis; two sons, Gabriel (Sarah) Weekly of Sturgis and Jeffery (Jennifer) Weekly of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren, Kalyn, Slade, Gavin, Aleece, Spenser, Steele and Sabellah; his mother, Virginia Weekly of Sturgis; two sisters, Kathy (Ken) Sahli of Sturgis and Shelley (Clint) Terrell of Virginia; a brother, Scott Weekly of Burr Oak; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Danny Weekly will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sturgis Wesleyan Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Deb Johnson of First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate. A procession honoring his many years as a fireman will follow the service.
