Gordon Kindig, 74, of Indio, Calif., and formerly of LaPorte, Ind., passed away Jan. 12, 2013, at Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert, Calif.
Gordon was born Feb. 2, 1938, to Alta (Arndt) and Emery Kindig.
Gordie was the golf pro at Beechwood Golf Course in LaPorte for more than 20 years until he purchased Cedar Lake Golf Course in Howe, Ind.
In 1956, Gordie earned the Northern Indiana Conference MVP for football and was also offered a contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
In 1962, he married Helen Kindig, who survives.
In 1982, he married Virginia Kindig, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jayne (Rick) Grillo; a grandson, Joel (Ashley) Shannon; a stepdaughter; two stepgrandsons; three brothers; and four sisters.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
A celebration of life was held Jan. 15, 2013, at Indian Palms Country Club in Indio, Calif., where more than 150 people were in attendance.
Gordon’s wishes were to be cremated and scattered in the San Diego Bay area.
