The chief operating officer for Nature’s Fuel said the Constantine site once considered for a St. Joseph County location is off the table.
Glenn Johnson said the Fort Wayne-based company found the expense related to settling at the former Rexam plant in the Constantine business park too great. He said all new electrical wiring at the north end of the building would be needed to meet the codes in place for a business of Nature’s Fuel operations.
Also, a Phase 2 environmental study revealed the presence of oil that the seller declined to remediate, Johnson said.
Nature’s Fuel is still planning to locate in St. Joseph County, though it intends to construct a new building, Johnson said, declining to state a prospective location.
Nature’s Fuel uses a patented, comprehensive process that involves low-temperatures and a non-combustion procedure called pyrolysis to produce bio-oil from ground-up wood scrap and other waste.
