Sturgis in Top Micropolitans

Site Selection magazine has ranked the Sturgis micropolitan – a region that includes St. Joseph County – No. 23 on its list of the 2012 Top Micropolitans.

The ranking represents the number of new facility and facility-expansion projects as tracked and reported by Conway Data Service’s New Plant Report.

Ron Kitchens, chief executive officer of Southwest Michigan First, said the Sturgis region was not on the list in 2010 or 2011, making its ranking in 2012 is an accomplishment. Kitchens said the standing represents work resulting from Southwest Michigan First’s contract with the St. Joseph County Economic Development Corporation.

One of the businesses mentioned in Site Selection’s March 2013 publication is the Three Rivers American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings plant in Three Rivers. American Axle is in the process of executing the largest 2012 St. Joseph County facility expansion.

Kitchens said the county’s business leaders are actively engaged in continuing forward momentum of working together to build a robust region.
