Murder warrant issued

Michigan State Police said a felony murder warrant has been issued for a Kalamazoo man suspected of murdering a woman whose body was found in Three Rivers nearly 20 years ago.

A warrant from the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office was issued Tuesday for Grady Shields Jr., 43. He is charged with the murder of Lois Cox, 59, who disappeared Oct. 20, 1993. Her body and car were found less than a week later in the 300 block of South Main Street.

The warrant for Shields stemmed from a cold-case investigation pursued jointly by Three Rivers Police Department and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety starting in 2012.

Shields is currently jailed on an unrelated charge and will face arraignment on the murder charge April 24 in Kalamazoo County.
