Ruth E. Hocker, age 78, of Centreville, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, April 25, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 6, 1935, in St. Clair Shores, a daughter of the late George and Edna (Harm) Husk.
Ruth resided in Centreville since 1987, coming from Three Rivers, where she lived for many years. Her early life was spent in St. Clair Shores and she was a graduate of St. Clair Shores High School with the class of 1952.
On Dec. 9, 1950, she married Harold Hocker in Angola, Ind. He died Nov. 11, 2008.
Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and had worked at the Kroger grocery store in Three Rivers for 15 years.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville. She was also active with the Commission on Aging in Three Rivers and enjoyed reading and cooking.
Ruth is survived by a son, Gary (Marsha) Hocker of Constantine; four daughters, Sheryl (John) Furey of Centreville, Cynthia (Mike) Daskivich of San Antonio, Texas, Mary (Mike) Mingus of Sturgis and Carol (Kemp) Kotschevar of Centreville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Donna) Husk of Westland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Ruth E. Hocker will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville. The Rev. David Grimm will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Hocker’s memory consider St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 600 W. Burr Oak, Centreville, MI 49032.
