Barbara Makowski-Meersma, age 71, of Three Rivers, formerly of Detroit, MI. passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Bronson Hospital following a courageous battle with A.L.S. She was born in Detroit on March 22, 1942 the daughter of Joseph and Jeanette (Dudzinski) Braschayko.
Barbara has been a resident of the Schoolcraft and Three Rivers area for 45 years. She was employed for over thirty years at Hydra-Matic later American Axle before retiring in 2008. After retirement, Barb became an avid volunteer for the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging where she was very active in the kitchen and made many friends.
Barb took great pride and pleasure in maintaining her home and property. Her true love was spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Meersma was preceded in death by her parents and former husband, John Meersma.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sons, Richard Makowski, of Three Rivers, and David (Maureen) Makowski, of Schoolcraft; three grandchildren, Skylar, Connor, and Bailey Makowski; sister, Josephine (Norbert) Jerzewski ; brother, Joseph (Mary) Braschayko; former husband, Joseph Makowski; many nieces and nephews and very good friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Hohner Funeral Home ;1004 Arnold St; Three Rivers ,MI 49093.
