Bernadette Germain, 93

Bernadette Merie Germain, age 93, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, May 24, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Ypsilanti.

She was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Schaeffer, Mich., one of 16 children to the late Theophile and Zelma (Simard) Bouchard.

Mrs. Germain resided in Sturgis since 1972 coming from Taylor, Mich.

On Nov. 20, 1937, she married William Germain in Detroit. He died Sept. 9, 1982.

She had been employed in the kitchen of Froh Community Home in Sturgis and the Sturgis Laundry Mat. Her love of caring for others lead her to accept a position of home health aide for Sturgis Home Health Care, a job she held for many years until her retirement.

Mrs. Germain enjoyed sewing, upholstering furniture, baking, traveling and camping and loved time spent with her family.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Brooks of Taylor, Rosemary (Al) Mezo of Dearborn Heights, Bernadean Germain of Ypsilanti and Joan (Brian) Wickham of Sturgis; two sons, Gary Germain of Taylor and William E. Germain of Gibraltar; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Maeann Carlson of Ford River; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Floyd Germain; two grandchildren, Sheila M. Germain and Jerry Brooks; and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Bernadette Germain will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
