Gordon Lamar Bickel, Sr., age 83, of Constantine, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 at his home. He was born in Three Rivers, MI on February 19, 1930, the son of Ray and Ailene (Hitchcox) Bickel. Gordon graduated from Constantine High School in 1948 and earned an Agriculture Degree from Michigan State University. He served in the US Army from 1954 until 1956. On June 3, 1981 he married Connie (Hartman) Lunger at the Constantine United Methodist Church.
Gordon was a life long dairy farmer on the family farm. He served as a Porter Twp. Clerk and later as Cass Co. Commissioner. Gordon was active in 4H with show cows and was a Junior 4H state leader as well as Junior Farm Bureau Leader. He was a lifetime member of Cass County Conservation Club and the Michigan Bow Hunters. Gordon was a member of the S.A.R in Battle Creek, the Constantine American Legion and the Three Rivers Eagles.
Surviving are his wife Connie Bickel, Constantine, sons Gordon L (Brenda) Bickel, Jr. of Jones, Steven (Laurie) Lunger of Quincy, Gregg Bickel of Vandalia, daughters Dian (Daniel) Warren of White Pigeon, Gayl (Jack Haines) Price of Moorehaven, FL, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Brian B. Bickel and great grandson Gabriel Warren.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Eley Funeral Home. Religious Services will be held at Constantine United Methodist Church Saturday at 11:00 AM with Reverend Scott Manning officiating. Interment will be at Shavehead Cemetery in Porter Twp.
