Harry Vischer, 84

Harrison “Harry” Phillip Vischer Jr., age 84, passed away suddenly at his home in Leonidas, MI on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, Washington Twp., on October 13, 1928 the son of Mr. Harrison Phillip Sr. and Hazel May (Patterson) Vischer.

Mr. Vischer was a long time Lenawee County resident and had recently moved to Southwestern Michigan.

Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On August 23, 1952 Harry was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Brighton who preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2003. Harry was a lifelong salesman and manufacturing representative for garden supplies. He was also a broadcaster from 1978 to 1983 in Bowling Green, OH.

Harry was an avid volunteer for Detroit Receiving Hospital, Jail Minister at both Gus Harrison Prison in Adrian as well as the prison in Coldwater. Harry and Mary were also active in St. Joseph Shrine in the Irish Hills and St. Elizabeth Church in Tecumseh, MI., as well as helping with clothing drives and food banks wherever he resided. Harry was a member of the NAACP Lenawee County, St. Mary’s Parish in Adrian, MI. and co-owner of Vischer-Colby Sales.

Mr. Vischer was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eleanor Brillhart and brother Harold Vischer. He is survived by his sister Betty (Tubby) Toedter of Toledo, Ohio.

He leaves to cherish in his loving memory, three children, Mark Patterson Vischer, of Marysville, TN., James Harrison (Kitrina) Vischer and their daughter, Brandi Lynn, of Three Rivers and Kalamazoo, and Anne Marie Lewis, of Adrian, MI., her former husband Stuart and their children, Angela Kay, of Westland, MI. and Andrew Lewis. Niece (like daughter), Shirley “Tootie” Horn, of Kalamazoo, and granddaughter, Alicia (Jeff) Loomis, of Britton, MI., and several additional nieces and nephews.

The family will celebrate the life of Mr. Vischer on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the St. Joseph Shrine at 11:00am (time) with Deacon Gene Hausmann as celebrant.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in St. Joseph Shrine (Irish Hills) Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers association or the Red Cloud Indian School of Pine Ridge, SD. Envelopes will be available at the celebration of life at St. Joseph Shrine.
