Mary E. Freeman, age 79, of 25721 M-86, Sturgis, Mich., Nottawa Township, Mich., passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 22, 2013, at her home.
She was born May 24, 1933, in New Haven, Conn., daughter of the late James J. and Bessie (Filo) Foley.
Mary resided in Sturgis since 1994 when she came to Sturgis from Connecticut to live with her daughter Esther and grandchildren Ashley Justine Barr and Nathaniel Edward Barr.
On Aug. 7, 1954, she married Edward Freeman at the Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ansonia, Conn. He died April 4, 1989.
Mary was a registered nurse dedicating 25 years of her skills to nursing homes and she was also a private duty nurse.
She was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and loved time spent with her family.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Marie (Rudy) Baras of Torrington, Conn., Donna Bell Henry of Shelton, Conn., Mary Bernadette Freeman of Naugatuck, Conn. and Esther (Bobby) Miller of Sturgis; 10 grandchildren including Ashley Justine Barr and Nataniel Edward Barr; 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ansonia, Conn. at a later date.
