Members of the Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of St. Joseph County agreed to move forward with establishing a Facebook page for the county’s Substance Abuse Coalition.
Board members Tuesday agreed that content of the agency-sponsored page would be limited to the SAC and its activities, including notifications about prescription medical drop boxes, underage-drinking-awareness measures and its Smart Summer program.
As an example, the SAC is in the midst of applying to cases of beer at area stores stickers that remind consumers it is illegal to purchase alcohol for minors.
No details about mental health or other sensitive information would appear on the Facebook page. Executive Director Liz O’Dell said the page would be under the CMHSAS domain but administered by a SAC representative. The St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit’s Facebook page under the authority of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department was cited as an example of an agency hosting a Facebook page for a group under its umbrella.
