Violet L. “Peg” Edwards, age 84, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Thurston Woods Village.
She was born April 26, 1929, at Leila Post Hospital in Battle Creek, a daughter of the late John and Loudema (Lake) Hughes. She was one of five siblings and resided mostly in the Athens or Burlington area.
On June 6, 1959, she married Harley Edwards in Sturgis, and together they raised 12 children. He preceded her in death March 3, 1988.
She was a homemaker and worked as a maid, waitress and at the Transogram Company in Sturgis.
Violet lived a full and happy life and always had an open door if there was anyone down and out who needed a place to live.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Miller of Sturgis; daughters Jennie Hagen, Susan Cowan and Cheryl Jourdan, all of Sturgis; other daughters Marjorie Crocker of Kalamazoo and Lois Wadsworth of Sherwood; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sons, Charles Miller, Larry Miller, Ronald Miller and Norris Carney; two daughters, Edith Hakes and Patricia McNabb; and a grandson, Eric Weber.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
A graveside service and burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Pastor Robert Keim will officiate.
