Betty A Fries, 81, of Mendon, died Friday June 7, 2013, at Heartland Health Care in Three Rivers, following a short illness.
She was born July 23, 1931, in Schoolcraft, a daughter of Millard Pierce and Alice Janice (Amos) Granger.
She had been a Mendon resident since 1965, coming from Schoolcraft and Vicksburg.
She was owner and operator of Auntie M’s Restaurant in Mendon; a member of First United Methodist Church, Mendon Kiwanis Club Showboat and Mendon Riverfest; past Mendon village president; and an avid CB Club member known as “Granny.” She enjoyed working in her yard and horses.
On Sept. 7, 1955, she married Ralph M. Fries in Valparaiso, Ind. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Sid) Torres of Vicksburg, Nancy (John) Yurkovich of Mendon and Candy “Chris” (Mathew) Russell of Kalamazoo; two sons, Preston (Barbara) Fries and Raymond (Diane) Fries, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herbert Bruysten of Mendon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Lewis and Gregory Fries; and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday at Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Interment will take place in Mendon Cemetery.
