Jonathan Robert Hakala, 36, of White Pigeon, Mich., died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich., from complications resulting from a motorcycle accident.
Jon was born Dec. 19, 1976, in Elkhart, Ind.
He graduated from White Pigeon High School in 1996.
Jon is survived by his parents, John and LuAnn (Waterman) Hakala of White Pigeon; grandmothers Barbara Waterman of Elkhart, Ind., and Pauline Belopavlovich of Spooner, Wis.; one sister, Jennifer (Hakala) Duvall of Elkhart, Ind.; two brothers, Nicholas Hakala of White Pigeon and Lucas Hakala of Chicago; two nephews, Cody Hakala and Greg (Kayla) Duvall; two nieces, Nichole Duvall and Laynee Hakala; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Bob Waterman and Paul Belopavlovich; and his brother-in-law Erick Duvall.
Jon was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone needing auto repairs, something towed or something fixed. He was always surrounded by friends and loved four-wheeling, working on cars, metal working and riding his motorcycle.
A memorial celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. July 6, 2013, at Mason Baptist Church, 20109 Mason St., Cassopolis.
