Shelley Buchanan, 47

Shelley Jean (Rinz)Buchanan, age 47, of Three Rivers, passed away late Sunday, June 2, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 17, 1966 in Three Rivers the daughter of Verner and Carole (Mechling) Rinz, of Three Rivers.

Shelley graduated from Three Rivers High School with the class of 1984. Shelley was very active in Girl Scouts, Volleyball and Soccer, and loved playing pool. She was a swimming instructor for St. Joseph County and Three Rivers Schools. On July 1, 1989 she was united in marriage to Mr. David Buchanan. Shelley was employed at Kirsch/Newell in Sturgis until their departure and also bartended for the Three Rivers Eagles 2303 and Moose Lodge 2388 where she was a charter member and the American Legion Post #170. Shelley was an excellent cook and loved feeding both family and friends.

Shelley was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roger (Jeanette) Mechling, and Verner (Virginia) Rinz.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, husband, David Buchanan, and their son, Ryon, both of Three Rivers; parents, Verner “Vern” (Carole) Rinz, of Three Rivers; sisters, Cindy (Jeff) Diethrich, of Constantine and Jennifer (Jeff) Kline, of Mendon, Nephews, Kurtis and Tyler Diethrich, Cody Kline, Dan and Tom Hamminga; Nieces, Ciera and Carissa Kline, and Sarah Daugherty; brother-in-law, Andrew Buchanan and sister –in-law, Mary (Mike) Hamminga. As well as many beloved extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Shelley’s Memorial Celebration at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Pastor Jim Stilwell officiating.
