Sturgis Citizens of the Year

Two longtime Sturgis residents were named its citizens of the year during a Monday kick-of dinner for the second annual Sturgis Fest community celebration.

Claudia Pahls and Larry Franks were honored during the event.

Pahls has been an educator at Sturgis High School since 1980, most recently serving as a career prep coordinator. Franks is past president of Burr Oak Tool and Gauge and is currently president of the Sturgis Historical Society.

The seven-day Sturgis Fest continues with activities 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at Franks Field, where a vintage baseball game featuring the Sturgis Biscuits will take place.

Bike Night, a gathering of motorcycles, will take place 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in downtown Sturgis.
