Violet Aleda Pierce, age 88 of Mendon went to meet the Lord on Tuesday June 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with A.L.S. She was born in Morley, IA on Feb. 24, 1925 the daughter of John H. and Mary (Fischer) Butschi. She was married to Floyd Pierce in April of 1942. He died in March of 1968. While in Iowa, Violet worked for Turner Microphones, and later worked for Fujitsu Electronics in California. She also worked as a dietician at St. Jude’s Hospital in Placentia, CA.
Violet moved to Mendon in 2001 where she was a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church and served as secretary of the Miriam Circle. She was also a member of the Mendon Kiwanis Club and participated in the Showboat and Dust-Off projects. She was also a volunteer for the Mendon Food Cupboard and the Mendon Public Library. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, ceramics, and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia.
Violet is survived by 2 daughters, Rosanne Marshall of Mendon, and Candace (Wayne) Shulte of Columbia, SC; 2 sons, John (Carolyn) Pierce of Coarsegold, CA, and Randy (Mary) Peirce of Brea, CA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Sue) Butschi of Cedar Rapids; 3 sisters, Joan Reding of Cedar Rapids, Helen Foster of Scottsdale, AZ, and Betty (John) Heefner of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death y her parents; her husband; a brother, John Butschi; sister Margaret Joyce Stevenson; son, Terry Pierce; daughter, Pam Kies, and son in law, Ray Marshall.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday June 28, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Bob Barton officiating. Burial will take place later at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA. Donations may be directed to the Mendon United Methodist Church, or the Mendon Food Cupboard.
