Continue to meet twice a month

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners appears likely to continue meeting twice a month, not one time monthly as proposed by a county official.

Following extensive discussion, the five-member panel during Friday’s committee of the whole meeting decided to keep the twice-a-month meeting schedule intact. County administrator Patrick Yoder had suggested the once-a-month schedule.

Commissioners did, however, recommend eliminating one of their two monthly committee of the whole meetings.

As a result, the committee of the whole will meet the Friday before the third Tuesday of the month.

The committee of the whole sessions afford commissioners and staff in-depth discussions about matters appearing on the following Tuesday’s board of commissioners meeting agenda.

At the behest of commissioner Allen Balog, commissioners may consider adopting a once-a-month board meeting in June, July and August next year, as the summer months tend to yield the least amount of business.
