Fishing With A Cop program

Sixteen area children between 8 and 13 years of age spent several hours Friday in the Fishing With A Cop program at Camp Fort Hill.

Organized by White Pigeon Police officer Jim Story and Michigan State Police trooper Matt Lackey, the 17th annual event included fishing, swimming and a meal of hot dogs and burgers cooked and donated by the Rich Probst family.

Police officers from Sturgis, Colon, St. Joseph County, E-911 Central Dispatch and the Michigan State Police spent time removing fish and baiting hooks.

Participants were selected through the St. Joseph County Department of Human Services. Also contributing were Fishers Bait Shop, BOFA and the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority.

Each child received a T-shirt and fishing pole.
