Joe Good, 66

Joseph B. Good, 66, residing in South Bend, passed away at 10:17 pm Monday, July 29, 2013 in Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mishawaka on February 28, 1947 to the late Wayne W. and Kathleen (Klein) Good. On August 21, 1971 at Notre Dame, Joe married the former Rita Notestine, who preceded him in death on June 1, 2012.

Joe graduated from Sturgis High School and then earned his Bachelor’s degree from Doane College and Master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He was the Secular Principal and English teacher at The Yeshiva of South Bend for 14 years and retired as a teacher with the South Bend Community School Corporation after 45 years. His hallmark was his commitment to each individual. He motivated his students to achieve academic excellence.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Mary Good Palmer (Michael) of Granger; son, Richard (Tina) Way of Kildeer, IL; nine grandchildren, Anastasia Way, Jonathan Way, Sophia Way, Ruth Palmer, Jacob Palmer, Anne Palmer, Nathan Palmer, Gabriel Palmer and Margaret Palmer; sister Mary Margaret (Daniel) Good-Magnus of Athens, MI; and brother, Jon N. (Karen) Good of Sturgis, MI. He is also survived by his mother in law, Ruth Notestine of South Bend; and sister in law, Jane (William) Notestine-Dickey of Buckeye, AZ.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, August 2, 2013 in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Sturgis, MI. Friends may visit with the family from 3:30 – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 1, 2013 in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
