Geraldine Fern Hoelscher, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2013, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born July 26, 1923, in Saginaw, a daughter of Kenneth and Lillian (Blake) Rice.
Geraldine resided in Ypsilanti or many years, but most recently in Chelsea before moving to Sturgis.
On Oct. 14, 1944, she married Henry Hoelscher in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died Nov. 28, 1995.
She received an associate degree from Clery Business College and was employed as a secretary at Ypsilanti Public Schools for 30 years. She was involved in several clubs including Drum and Bugle Corps, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Organization for Young Business Women and the USO in Ypsilanti.
She is survived by two sons, Larry A. (Michele) Hoelscher of Brighton and Jim (Donna) Hoelscher of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Jeanette Hoelscher, Patrick (Jennifer) Hoelscher, Monica Hoelscher and Christopher (Kristen) Hoelscher; three great-grandchildren, Mason Hoelscher, Brandy Hoelscher and Harper Hoelscher; a sister, Dorothy (Austin) Norton of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, David Hoelscher; a brother, Kenneth Rice; and a sister: Lorainne McCartney.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation as taken place. Private services will be held at a later date.
Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
