William “Bill” M. Smithers Jr., age 57, of Three Rivers, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Heartland Health Care surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Willits, CA., on October 17, 1955 the son of William E. and Christine (Traverse) Smithers.
Bill made Three Rivers his home in 1965 moving from California. He was a member of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170 and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard. Bill was employed by the City of Three Rivers for over 35 years where he made many friends and acquaintances, and often volunteered for the Harmony and Water Festivals.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William E. Smithers, two half-brothers, Billy and Bob, and one half-sister, Betty Lou.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother, Christine Smithers; his wife, Nancy (Page) Smithers; one son, William T. Smithers; all of Three Rivers, MI.; one daughter, Billi Jo (Brian) Potter, and their children, T.J., Gideon, and Brody Potter, all of Traverse City, MI.; brother, Rick(Jenni)Smithers, of Three Rivers; as well as several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Pastor Marty Culver officiating.
Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery.
