Doris Malcolm, age 90, of Colon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Masonville House in Coldwater.
Doris was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Jones, a daughter of the late Lavern and Cora Belle (Bowen) Pipher.
Doris grew up in the Jones area. She graduated from Constantine High School with the class of 1941. She had made her home in Colon since 1978.
On May 3, 1946, she married Wendell H. Malcolm in Fort Wayne, Ind. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 2010.
Doris had worked for Continental Can in Three Rivers for 19 years, retiring in 1976. She also worked for nine years at Colmer Co. in Colon and also for Vanguard in Colon.
She was an active member of Colon American Legion Auxiliary, life member of Marcellus VFW #4054, a 45-year member of Three Rivers Eagles #2303, Hastings Moose Chapter 626, and Three Rivers Elks #1248.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Lee (Patricia Pipe) Malcolm and Gary Lee (Marilyn) Malcolm, all of Coldwater; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four nieces; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, David Cooper Malcolm; three brothers, William W., Russell L. and Bernard B. Pipher.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Doris Malcolm will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the funeral home, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. A committal service and burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Doris to either Colon American Legion, Community Health Center of Branch County Hospice or Marcellus VFW. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
