Letha Decker, 84

Letha J. (Sammy) Decker, age 84, of Colon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

Letha was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Colon, a daughter of the late Lou G. and Lucy (Gregg) Dingman.

Letha had lived all her life in Colon, graduating form Colon High School with the class of 1947.

On Nov. 5, 1949, she married Robert Lee Decker in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death July 9, 1999.

Letha was a homemaker and also had worked for 10 years at Colmer Co. in Colon and also at the Colon schools in the lunchroom.

Letha loved time spent with family, flowers, bird-watching, all animals and had enjoyed camping earlier in life.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Dennis) Bittner of Battle Creek and Dianne (Richard) Denney of Colon; two sons, Gary (Bonnie) Decker of Athens and Dale (Diane) Decker of Coldwater; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Nichols of Colon and Marjorie Pierce of Danville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Robert and William Dingman; and three sisters, Mona Westendorf, Betty Simpkins and infant sister.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Letha J. Decker will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the funeral home, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. A committal service and burial will follow at South Colon Cemetery in Colon.

If desired, the family suggest memorials be directed to Huntington Disease Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
